Raised in Speedway, a graduate of Indiana State University, and retired
from IBM, Dick Skidmore now lives with his wife, Wilda, in Hanover. He
is a former president of this round table, and three others over the years.
He has published two Civil War books and has written several items on
Indiana soldiers in the Civil War, including the "Civil War"
entry in The Encyclopedia of Indianapolis. Dick successfully coordinated
the restoration of 160 military oil portraits at the Indiana Veterans'
Home. Also, he coordinated implementing the John Hunt Morgan Heritage
Trail in southern Indiana. For this effort he recently received the Jefferson
Davis Historical Gold Medal Certificate from the United Daughters of the
Confederacy. In 1996, he was named a Hoosier Historian by the Indiana
Historical Society.
