About Our Speaker

Steven W. Hill currently serves as Vice President of The Indianapolis Civil War Round Table (he is also a former President). Steve has been a lifelong student of military history, with special interests in military flags and naval history. He served eleven years in the United States Army which, in 1970, only slightly edged out his desire to possibly serve in the Navy. He rounded out his twenty year commitment as a major in the Reserves.

After leaving the Army in 1984, Steve attended the University of Delaware and there earned a Master’s Degree in American History and Certificate of Museum Studies.

From 2000 to 2005, Steve was on the museum staff of the Indiana War Memorial in Indianapolis. This month’s presentation is an outgrowth of research initiated for an exhibit in the Soldiers and Sailors Monument on the Circle.

Besides his “regular” history and museum jobs, Steve has been researching, writing, and making reproductions of military flags and colors for museums, public buildings, movies, collectors, and re-enactors for over twenty years. He is currently working on Civil War colors for the museums at Fort Campbell and Fort Leonard Wood. His book on the military colors
