20th Indiana

Dunn’s most recent book covers the military history of the Twentieth Indiana Volunteers.  The regiment was formed at Camp Tippecanoe, in Lafayette, and was filled with men from Indianapolis, Lafayette, Peru, Logansport, Kokomo, Monticello, Plymouth, Valparaiso, La Porte, Crown Point and many points in between.  The regiment had the distinction of being the only infantry regiment to do battle with the Confederate ironclad CSS Virginia (aka The Merrimac).  The Hoosiers participated in the bloody Seven Days Battles, Second Manassas, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Wilderness, Spotsylvania, North Anna, Cold Harbor and Petersburg.  After Gettysburg, the men were dispatched to New York City to quell the draft riots.  The regiment experienced heavy losses during the war in both killed and wounded, earning them high honors and the acclaim of Union generals.

The book is available in hardback at $30.00 or soft-bound at $25.00.
