DR. WESLEY L. HANSON
Educated at Northwestern University (Evanston, Illinois) and with a doctoral
degree from the prestigious Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY,
Dr. Hanson is a performer, teacher, conductor, and composer/arranger of
music. Proficient on the low brass instruments of trombone and euphonium,
he also performs vocal solos and arranges and plays many of his own piano
accompaniments. Following his early retirement from Ball State University,
Dr. Hanson combined his interest in history with his musical abilities
and began to research and perform the music of the Civil War period of
American History. He appears regularly at the Sharpsburg, Maryland, Heritage
Festival, held in connection with the anniversary of the Civil War battle
of Antietam in 1862, where he is a local favorite. He has also done shorter
versions of his program at the Benjamin Harrison Home in Indianapolis
and as a warm-up for President Lincoln at the Hartford City encampment
in October.
